City Council Ward 3

Re-Elect Frank Fogarty, City Council

Posted

 To my friends and neighbors,

My name is Frank Fogarty, and I am your councilman for Ward 3. In these last four years, I've had the opportunity to serve this community with pride and dignity, and would like to share with you some of the wonderful things we've accomplished together in my time on the council, along with my plans for the future.

During my tenure, our city has moved forward with a variety of much needed infrastructure and public works projects. Among these improvements includes the replacement of old and deprecated water lines, in conjunction with repaving our main thoroughfares across EP and securing the groundwork for brand new and safe parking for our teachers and parents next to Kent Heights Elementary School. I'm also pleased to have supported the repair and repainting of our beautiful and iconic water tower, branded with our proud EP lettering that shows everyone that EAST PROVIDENCE is a great place to live. Additionally, I'm proud to have supported and nurtured the redevelopment of Martin Middle School along with its soon to be opened Pre-K building.

All of that being said, being part of running a great city is about more than just the fanfare that comes with checking off a few boxes that residents expect. My motivation comes from my core values, my faith in God, and four decades of deep roots right here in our city. My wife Nancy and I have been married for 40 years, raising our four children through the East Providence public school system, and today we are blessed with eight wonderful grandchildren.

Over the last four decades, I’ve served our community in almost every way possible, including as a U.S. Air Force veteran, a local small business owner running a catering company in EP for 16 years, a retired maintenance worker for our school department, a former PTA president, and a volunteer coaching and refereeing youth sports at Pierce Stadium, Little League, PCD, and St. Martha’s.

My love of community is why I helped oversee the Kent Field revitalization project that was started by my good friend and predecessor, former councilman Nate Cahoon, along with his colleagues and the administration. It's important for there to be places in our city where people can play, talk to each other, and appreciate the value of a loving and supportive community that we can all be happy to be a part of. Going forward we will continue to invest with walking paths and additional access to the dog park for pet owners.

A proven track record is important, but we cannot rest on our laurels. My plans going forward are a common sense approach.

* Keep our taxes at a minimum increase

* Find alternative energy sources to help reduce our exorbitant costs

* Reduce our emissions by creating a safe street network, with more bicycle/walking infrastructure, and new clean and accessible bus shelters

* Seek more federal funding for our community projects

* Secure every opportunity for grants to help offset our budget

* Continue to nurture our businesses, and allow them to grow and improve after all of the hardship they have endured from the Washington Bridge crisis

* Invest in 55+ housing and community spaces, so our elders can age in place in the community they helped build

* Fight for affordability so long-time residents, young adults, and seniors are not priced out of the city we love

* Continue to fund and support our students and teachers with the best environment to learn, and encourage workforce development opportunities so that they may grow and excel in the workplace

Throughout my time on the council, I have worked productively alongside the administration when we share common goals that benefit our community. But when an initiative doesn't serve our best interests, I never hesitate to speak up. At the end of the day, I represent the people of Ward 3. I represent you.

Frank Fogarty for Ward 3 City Council

I WORK FOR YOU!
