The Declaration of Independence: Remembering Our Nation's Founding Document will take place Thursday August 13th at 11:30AM in the Tilton Room at the Carpenter Museum, 4 Locust Avenue, Rehoboth.
Bring a bagged lunch and join Rehoboth Antiquarian Society and 250th Anniversary Committee member Lee Ashcroft for an engaging presentation examining why the Declaration of Independence was written, the ideas and arguments it contains, its contradictions, and the economic, intellectual, and cultural forces that shaped the colonies' break from Britain. The program will also explore how the Declaration was drafted and edited into one of history's most influential documents. Drinks will be provided.
Ashcroft is a dedicated history enthusiast, and has presented programs including Rhode Island History 101, The Pilgrim Experience, and Rhode Island in the Revolutionary Era. Community Reading of the Declaration of Independence
Join the Rehoboth Antiquarian Society's Revolutionary War 250th Committee, the Rehoboth Congregational Church, and the Carpenter Museum on Saturday, September 5, at 2PM for a special community reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Rehoboth Congregational Church. Admission is free, no registration is required, and all are welcome!
In 1776, communities across the colonies gathered to hear the newly adopted Declaration of Independence read aloud for the first time. This special event will recreate that historic tradition as readers of all ages come together to share the words that announced America's independence. Experience the Declaration and reflect on the document that helped shape our nation.
Following the reading, visitors are invited next door to the Carpenter Museum for complimentary period-inspired snacks and drinks while exploring the Museum's current exhibit featuring Revolutionary War artifacts and the stories of Rehoboth's role in the American Revolution.
Come be part of this memorable community event as we commemorate America's 250th anniversary and celebrate the ideals that united a new nation.
