As I write in mid-May, we are still waiting for warmer weather, but at least the sun is out and my seeds and in their little garden plugs!
This reminds me to urge caution as you get outside to your garden or other outdoor activities, particularly in grassy or woodland areas. I’m sure you all know my spiel now: wear light colored clothing, long pants and sleeves with pants tucked into your socks. Also, shower and do a body check as soon as possible upon going back indoors. Remember to keep water collections in outdoor containers emptied as we head into mosquito season. For further protection from mosquito bites, avoid outdoor activities during dawn and dusk, but if you are out during those hours, fishing, at the ball fields or enjoying the long evenings, please use an approved bug repellant and follow the directions on the container. As we come to the end of the school years keep in mind that the little ones will be out and about playing in your neighborhoods.
Watch out for the little ones on their bicycles, especially the little children still learning to ride their bike. Parents and caregivers, please be sure children have their helmets on and consider long pants in case they fall. Walkers, runners and drivers, if the children are riding on pathways or on the road, please give them a wide berth. Their little legs are working hard and they may wobble a little. Please be sure young children are accompanied by an adult if they are out on pathways or the roadway. I strongly advise to avoid riding on the main roads, but if you need to ride a short stretch to get to where you are going, be sure you have high visibility clothing on the children and keep them in your sites.
We are all getting ready for the FIFA men’s World Cup! I taped a short health and safety program that will air on the local cable channel 98 in late May, with some helpful information, but you can also access all the information that the Ma. DPH has been working on for the past year at:

As I write, we are still reading about the Hanta virus outbreak on a cruise ship. Those affected are returning to the US and all are being assessed and isolated as appropriate. The risk to the general populations is very low. For more information please see the town web page, or access the following link:
