GFWC Greater Taunton Woman’s Club’s Alice in Wonderland’s Mad Hatter’s Tea

Posted

On Sunday, May 19th, the GFWC Greater Taunton Women’s Club had their annual fundraiser tea for student scholarships at the St. Nicholas of Myra church in North Dighton. This year’s theme was Alice in Wonderland’s Mad Hatter’s Tea. Decorations in the hall included scenes from the story, mirrors, and cards on the walls, along with large playing card characters, flamingos and even a croquet game setup on the floor. One member, Robert Poli, dressed as the rabbit from the tale. Those who attended the tea were treated with decorated bags filled with sandwiches and sweet treats, an endless quantity of hot tea, and each table had tiered plates of additional treats. During the tea members passed out small bottles of liquid with labels saying “Drink Me” and small pieces of cake labeled “Eat Me” to represent the part of the Lewis Carroll story where Alice shrinks to the size of a doll when she drinks the liquid in the bottle and becomes a giant when she eats the cake. Finally, tickets were drawn for the many raffle prizes and those in attendance were encouraged to take as many of the treats still left home in their bags.
