Teen Services at Seekonk Public Library

Posted

Teen Advisory Board
Thursday, April 2 at 3:30 PM
**Please note: Meetings are for TAB members only. To join, visit seekonkpl.org/teens and download the TAB application. Email the finished application to teens@seekonkpl.org  or turn it in at the Research Help Desk in the library.

Your opinion matters! If you’re in grade 6 through 12, then you have a chance to make a difference at your library by joining the Teen Advisory Board (TAB). During the school year, we will meet once a month at 3:30 PM to share ideas about upcoming programs and discuss how we can make the most out of the library’s services for tweens and teens. This is an opportunity to practice leadership, collaboration, and civic engagement and to take an active role in shaping the library’s impact on your community. Becoming a member of the board requires a commitment to attend meetings regularly.

For more information, call Adult Services at the library at (508) 336-8230 or email teens@seekonkpl.org.

Poetry Workshop for Tweens and Teens
Thursday, April 9 at 3:00 PM
April is National Poetry Month, so join us for this opportunity to learn some tips on poetry writing in a low-key, judgment-free environment. We’ll discuss simple ways to express your ideas with clarity and impact, and we’ll do some writing exercises individually and as a group. No experience is necessary, just an open mind and a positive attitude!

This 90-minute event is free and open to tweens and teens in grades 6 through 12. Please register online at www.seekonkpl.org/events.

For more information, call Adult Services at the library at (508) 336-8230 or email teens@seekonkpl.org.

Selfie Silhouettes
Thursday, April 23 at 3:00 PM
The picture captured in a photo is made up of curves, edges, and shades of color, all intricately mingled to create a lifelike image. If we untangle some of these elements and highlight the lines, the contours, the contrast of light and shadows, we just might see a work of art revealed in our own unique and striking faces. In this workshop, you’ll learn some simple digital photo editing techniques and create your own abstract self-portrait using a Silhouette Cameo cutting machine. **Note: Participants are encouraged to bring their own Windows or Mac laptop if they have one (Chromebooks not recommended). No specific software is required.

This 90-minute event is free and open to grades 6 through 12. Space is limited and registration is required at www.seekonkpl.org/events.

All About Filmmaking Workshop
Monday, April 27 at 6:00 PM
**NOTE: This program was rescheduled from its original February date due to the snowstorm and is now open for new registrations.
Starting with storyboarding, independent filmmaker Nicola McEldowney (Nicola Rose, Magnetosphere) will walk us through all the steps to making an independent film. She’ll show brief clips from her own filmography as examples of finished products, and she’ll allow participants time to ask questions and even make their own storyboards and share ideas.

This 1-hour event is free and open to grades 6 through adult. Space is limited and registration is required at www.seekonkpl.org/events.

For more information, call Adult Services at the library at (508) 336-8230 or email
