East Providence Voters Elect New Council and School Committee Members

Posted

East Providence voters elected Democrats to all contested State House seats in Tuesday’s election, while several local races brought changes to the City Council and School Committee. In one of the more notable results, longtime City Councilman At-Large Bob Rodericks was defeated in his bid for reelection by Jason Medeiros. “I guess I didn’t work hard enough,” Rodericks said following the election results. He noted that Medeiros had not participated in debates, council meetings or budget workshops during the campaign. “People wanted change it appears. I contacted Jason after the votes were in and congratulated him.”

City Council Results
Three incumbent City Council members secured reelection: Frank Rego in Ward One, Anna Sousa in Ward Two and Frank Fogarty in Ward Three.

In Ward Four, newcomer Jason Botelho defeated fellow newcomer Michael Spremuli for the seat being vacated by Rick Lawson.

Mayoral Race
Mayor Bob DaSilva secured a third term in office, defeating challenger Patricio Pinto by a wide margin.

State Senate District 14
In the State Senate District 14 race, Senate President Val Lawson won reelection, defeating challenger Brian Coogan by a substantial margin.

School Committee Results
The School Committee will also see several new faces following Tuesday’s election.

Incumbents Anthony Ferreira and Ryan Queenan were reelected without opposition.

In Ward Two, newcomer John Medeiros defeated incumbent Tony deSimas. Medeiros is the father of newly elected At-Large City Council member Jason Medeiros.

In Ward Three, Libby Merrill defeated fellow newcomer Renee Ignacio.

In Ward Four, Chrissy Rossi won the vacant School Committee seat over Anthony Pedulla.
