News & Notes from the Blanding Library

Matt York Returns May 13
Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan will be the musical focus of Matt York, who returns to the library on Wed. May 13 at 6:30. In this musical evening, Matt will play the songs of Bob Dylan and Johhny Cash and discuss how the musical friendship of these two icons helped merge country and folk traditions. 

Matt York has twice been nominated for the Boston Music Award for Best Country Artist and he recently released his second book, The Words and Wisdom of Willie Nelson.  This free program is supported in part by a grant from the Rehoboth Local Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Create a Fairy House Sat. May 9
Come and create an abode for your garden fairy on Sat. May 9 from 1-3. Materials will be provided; however, you are welcome to bring things to add or share. Ages 5 and up. Please call to register.

Crafting Wine Bottle Wind Chimes
Join us on Wed. May 27 at 6:30 for crafting a wine bottle wind chime to hang up at home and catch the summer breeze. Free; all materials provided. Ages 15 and up. Space is limited; please call to register.

New Writers’ Group
Are you interested in writing and sharing your writing with others? There will be a meeting on Wed. May 20 at 4 pm at the library to establish interests, and discuss plans in greater detail, as we establish interests and organize a day and time for a monthly meeting.

Story Hours & More

  • Join Jocelyn from PACE for Stories and Songs for Littles on Mon. May 4 at   10:30.
  • Tot Time with Miss Joyce for children under 3 is on Tuesdays at 10:30 and Story Hours with Miss Cathy for children ages 3 and up is on Thursdays at 10:30. Siblings are welcome to both groups.
  • Legos at the Library will next be offered on Sat. May 9. Stop by between 11 and 2 to make something special.

Children's Book Sale in June                  
There will be a sale of gently used books for children of all ages June 9-11   during library hours, or until all books are gone. $4.00/bag. Bring your own bag or get one here.  Adults must be accompanied by a child. Check the library's calendar for times.  This event is sponsored by The Friends of the Blanding Library.

Seeking Book Donations
It’s not too early to bring donations of used books for all ages to the library, as we look ahead to the Friends of the Blanding Library annual book sale in October. Please bring your donations of used books in good condition into the library during business hours.

Ongoing Programs

  • The weekly history discussion group led by Hank Coleman meets at 11am each Wednesday. Open to all with an interest in history; for more information contact hjcoleman@comcast.net.          
  • The Blanding offers two monthly book groups; one meets on Monday evenings and one on Wednesday afternoons. Call the library for more information.
  • Knit Night at the library meets one Thursday evening a month from 6:30 to 8. For adults and teens to get together and work on their knitting projects.

The Blanding Public Library, at 124 Bay State Rd., Rehoboth is open Monday through Thursday from 10 to 8, and on Friday and Saturdays from 10 to 4. Closed Sundays and holidays, including Mon. May 25 for Memorial Day.
