Dighton-Rehoboth Honors Former School Committee Member Richard Barrett for Nearly 25 Years of Service

The Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School Committee honored former member Richard Barrett during its June 24 meeting, recognizing his nearly 25 years of service to the District and the communities of Dighton and Rehoboth. The surprise acknowledgement was facilitated by Selectman George Solas and Superintendent Bill Runey. Joining the celebration was Rehoboth’s Town Administrator, Susan Pimental.

Barrett, who concluded his service in April 2026, served through multiple administrations, elections, and periods of significant change while remaining a dedicated advocate for public education and local government.

“Richard's service to this District spans nearly a quarter century—longer than many careers in education,” said Runey. “Over the past four years, I came to appreciate not only his commitment to the School Committee, but also his authenticity, common-sense perspective, and unwavering dedication to the communities we serve. Whether people agreed with him or not, no one can question the countless hours he devoted to Dighton-Rehoboth students, staff, and taxpayers.”

School Committee Chair Chris Andrade reflected on Barrett's long tenure and impact on the District.
“Richard represented the very best of local public service,” said Andrade. “Year after year, he continued to show up, ask questions, and make decisions based on what he believed was best for students and the community. On behalf of the School Committee, we thank him for his years of dedication and wish him all the best.”

Vice Chair Aaron Morse noted the importance of recognizing individuals who devote decades to public service.

“School committees are often made up of volunteers who serve quietly behind the scenes,” said Morse. “Richard's nearly twenty-five years of service represent an extraordinary commitment to this District. His experience, institutional knowledge, and dedication helped shape Dighton-Rehoboth for generations of students.”

During the ceremony, Barrett was presented with a commemorative plaque recognizing his many years of service to the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District.

The School Committee and administration extend their gratitude to Mr. Barrett for his service, dedication, and lasting contributions to the District.
