Regarding the Medeiros Property

Posted

This is a letter about the Medeiros property.

Although I am admittedly ignorant of many of the details of the proposed development of the Medeiros property, there is one possibility that seems to have been overlooked.

One of the contentious issues of the proposal is the development of athletic fields. Neighborhood members have complained that the use of athletic fields will change the neighborhood, will increase traffic congestion even to dangerous levels, and may even bring excessive light and noise to the area if evening games or activities are conducted.

On the other hand, there have also been suggestions that the old Firefly Golf Course land will be developed, potentially with a school.

Schools also need athletic fields.

It seems to me that it would make sense to build any needed athletic fields at this time at the Firefly property rather than at the Medeiros property. There would be several advantages to this strategy: the Firefly property is more centrally located; it already has the necessary road access; the fields could be located to minimize evening artificial light and noise pollution to the few neighbors. Also, if and when a school is built, it would already have its athletic fields. Advantages of this policy to the Medeiros property would be that its passive recreation capabilities could be increased with much less neighborhood invasion, and there would be minimal increase in traffic and light pollution. The neighborhood would be changed significantly less than with that of the present plan.

I hope that this suggestion can be considered.

Sincerely,
Steve Davis
