The Seekonk School Committee approved fees for athletics and transportation at their June 15 meeting.
“Once a (student) loves a sport, they’re going to keep playing it,” Chair Robert Gerardi explained Monday. “We came up with a plan to keep a family cap of $400. The big debate was whether we do a tiered fee, the first sport is $150, the next sport is $50, something like that versus a flat fee of $200. We decided to go with the flat fee so for $200 they can participate in as many sports as they want and the family would have a cap so if they had three (children), they would only have to pay the $400.”
Gerardi said there would be a slight increase in transportation fees for the 2026-2027 school year. For 2025-2026, the fee was $180 per student with a family cap of $450.
Last April, the committee approved fees for athletics and activities at the middle and high school levels as a way to compensate for a deficit in the FY’27 budget.
Superintendent Rebecca Kidwell said the school department hoped to raise $70,000.
