Town Administrator Sue Pimental announced Rehoboth has been awarded $250,000 from the Department of Energy Resources’ Green Communities Division. Pimental made the announcement at the July 30 Board of Selectmen meeting.
The list of projects funded include $152,055 for a heat pump for the Police Department, $88, 861 for weatherization for the Police Department, $6,084 for LED Lighting - Police Department, and $3000 for administrative assistance to the town.
An application for a Green Communities grant was submitted to DOER last October.
Last March, the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (HLC) had determined that Rehoboth was out of compliance with the MBTA Communities Act and DOER withheld the grant award from the town.
The DOER sent a letter to the town promising to reinstate the grant if the town remediated its non-compliance status before June 30.
On June 16, the town notified DOER that the June 2 Annual Town Meeting approved adoption of a zoning bylaw meeting the requirements of Section 3A. HLC has changed Rehoboth’s status from “non-compliant” to “interim compliance.”
