Honoring Veterans and Growing a Community Mission in Rehoboth

The local effort to honor veterans through Wreaths Across America at Rehoboth Village Cemetery is entering its third year, continuing to grow thanks to strong community support. Since its launch, the mission has remained simple yet deeply meaningful: to remember and honor every veteran laid to rest in Rehoboth. Each year brings new momentum, fresh ideas, and stronger connections among volunteers, supporters, and local families.

As part of the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary, this year’s efforts will expand to include honoring all of Rehoboth’s Revolutionary War soldiers, placing a wreath at the entrance of each town cemetery, and continuing the long-term goal of growing to be able to place a wreath on every veteran’s grave. In total, nearly 760 wreaths will be needed for this year's event, including an estimated 560 veterans at Rehoboth Village Cemetery.

Returning this year is the popular “Flag a Friend” campaign, with hopes of reaching even more homes across the community. For $17—the cost of sponsoring one wreath—participants can have 12 small American flags placed in a visible location in honor of a friend, family member, neighbor, veteran, or local business. These temporary displays are respectfully placed by volunteers ahead of Memorial Day weekend and removed a few days later. A “Flag a Veteran” option is also available, and recognized veterans receive a small token of appreciation along with a thank-you sign acknowledging their service—creating a visible and heartfelt tribute across the community.

The group is also excited to participate in the Rehoboth Memorial Day Parade this year. Be sure to look for us along the parade route—complete with our signature ducks—and learn how you can sponsor a wreath and be entered into our annual YETI cooler raffle.

Community involvement remains at the heart of this mission. We are always looking for new faces, fresh ideas, and helping hands. If you’ve ever considered getting more involved, we welcome you to share your ideas and consider joining our planning committee.

We are currently planning an upcoming fundraiser at Terry Diddle Farm and extend a heartfelt thank you to Terry Diddle for generously sharing their venue space with us. For this event, we are seeking raffle contributions, including gift certificates for products or services, experiences at local establishments, larger experience-based items, and new items you may wish to regift.
