Costello and Schwall Honored With Special Appointments

Posted

Rehoboth Selectmen Michael Costello and Gerry Schwall won’t be running for re-election on April 6, but they will remain a part of town government even after their successors take their places.

Costello will serve as Public Safety Project Manager after supervising the work on the new police building for the last year.

In addition, Costello will continue on the Council on Aging Building Committee, which was formed after a fire destroyed the old facility on Bay State Road.

Schwall will serve as Coordinator for Special Projects.

Most recently, Schwall oversaw the creation of the town’s Covid-19 vaccination clinic.

Chairman Skip Vadnais said Costello reminded him of a World War Two Destroyer Captain: “When faced with overwhelming odds, his response was ‘damn the torpedos, full speed ahead, firing all his guns into the face of adversity.’ “You always get the job done. You take on a tough mission and you see it through.”

“You have always been a workhorse,” Costello told Schwall.

“You guys have set the bar so high,” Selectman Dave Perry said.

“It’s been an honor to serve,” Schwall said of his time on the board. “It’s been very rewarding.”
