Donald Avanzo, 71, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at his home in East Providence.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Dante and Josephine (Brum) Avanzo and brother of the late Dante Avanzo, Jr.

Donald was the General Manager of North Star Aviation for 23 years before retiring 9 years ago. Prior to that he was an Estimator for Omega Electric for 20 years. He was a hard worker all his life, always putting in maximum effort.

Donald had many interests throughout his life. From his first dirt bike at age 16, he loved riding, an interest he eventually shared with both his sons. He was an avid fan of motocross racing and followed all of the professional races. He excelled at any interest he had, from photography in his early years to becoming an excellent woodworker making beautifully crafted pieces of outdoor furniture for friends and family. Coaching Little League was a big part of his life when his sons were young, being involved in the East Providence community, and he was a member of the East Providence Elks Lodge #2337. In later years he enjoyed RV camping, boating and fishing.

Donald had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He had a beautiful laugh. And if anyone needed help, you could count on him to be kind and generous with his time, using his building skills to help his friends and members of his family.

He leaves two sons, David J. Avanzo and his wife Erin and Douglas D. Avanzo and his wife Jillian, one grandson, Jackson D. Avanzo, one sister, Joanne Bagley and her husband David and his close friend for over 30 years, John Carnevale.

Funeral services will be private.
