TLC and Attleboro Y Help Adult Students Learn Outside the Classroom
On September 27, the Attleboro Norton YMCA’s Downtown branch hosted dozens of students and their family members from The Literacy Center (TLC). Visitors received a guided tour of the Wellness Center, pool, indoor track, and other amenities. The Y also shared information about additional services open to members – including personal training and child care – before treating guests to a complimentary meal at the on-site cafe. The event was part of the YMCA's Welcome Month activities and aimed to promote inclusion with the community's immigrant and refugee families – many of whom receive classes and services at TLC.
This event continues a longstanding partnership between Attleboro Y and TLC, whose students can already access the Downtown YMCA's fitness facilities as part of a membership-partnership between the Y and TLC. “It’s much easier to excel in the classroom when you feel good physically,” said Amanda Blount, TLC’s Executive Director. “Proper nutrition and regular exercise are essential to overall health. Partnering with the Y gives our families a welcoming place where they can incorporate these habits into their daily lives.”
TLC is Attleboro’s largest adult education provider, offering convenient daytime, evening, and Saturday classes for their core programs: English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), English immersion, and computer literacy. In addition, TLC regularly provides citizenship exam training and 1-on-1 tutoring in a variety of subjects. For more information, please visit www.theliteracycenter.com or call (508) 226-3603.
