GFWC Taunton and Raynham Junior Woman's Club News

The GFWC Taunton and Raynham Jr. Woman's Club's membership is growing with two additional members having been installed at the club's March meeting on Monday night at the Silver Platter Restaurant inside Bristol Plymouth Technical High School. Membership Chairperson Joyce Clark installed Judy Floor of North Dighton and Debra Chaplin of Raynham. Acting president Cindy Brogan presented them with the GFWC pin welcoming them into the club.

In addition the guest speaker was the recently elected first woman Mayor of Taunton, Shaunna O'Connell. Mayor O'Connell spoke on how she got to where she is today. Never intending to become a public servant she however was outrage when she had seen a news broadcast concerning a child kidnapping in Florida in 2005. She decided then to make a difference to help protect potential victims and reduce a sexual offender's ability to re-offend. This began her unintentional journey into politics. She was a member of the State House of Representatives and is now the 50th Mayor of Taunton. She is dedicated and loyal to the people she serves in the community she grew up in and loves.
She was accompanied by Kelly Dooner. Dennis Ackerman also attended assisting his wife Judy who is the clubs Programs Chairperson. Acting President Cindy Brogan presented the Mayor with a gift basket as a thank you for visiting the club.

Other programs that evening were a March of Dimes Toss to raise funds for the cause organized by Chairperson Robin Broberg. In addition Leadership Chairwomen Joan Rainville Curran and Paula Gasparonii tested the members observational skills with a Mix it Up game. The club also donated $3500 in student scholarships to several local high schools.

Members are from the cities and towns of Taunton, Raynham, Berkley, Dighton and Rehoboth, Somerset, Assonet, Brockton and Lakeville,
