John S. Silva, 94, of Grove Avenue, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of the late Justa (Barros) Silva.

Born in Brava, Cape Verde Islands he was a son of the late Joao Andrade and Olivia Dos Santos and the adopted son of the late Alexandre and Quinha Silva. Mr. Silva was an Oiler for the Exxon Mobile Company for 16 years before he retired in 1984 and was also a member of the Exxon Rhode Island Annuity Club and the Bisca Tournament Club. He was a talented song writer and composed many different songs. The song that had the most meaning to him was the one he composed for his wife, “morna, Triste Gonia”.

He leaves four children, Joao Alfredo Féfe and his wife Maria, Paulo Silva and his wife Maria, Maria O. DeBarros and her husband Jose and Julie Penha and her husband Ron, five siblings, Domingas Dos Santos, Maria Lopes, Dulceneia DeFaria, Julieta Faria and Ulisis Andrade, eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was the father of the late Antonio Teixeira, grandfather of the late Johnathan DeBarros and brother of the late Jose Andrade and John Andrade.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 8:30 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Xavier Church, North Carpenter Street. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 2-4 and 6-9.

Laura L. de Escobar, 92, of South Burlington Vermont, formerly of Dover Avenue, East Providence passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019.
