Posted

The Seekonk Water District has implemented a Phase 3 Water Ban as part of its water management program, which took effect on Tuesday, June 23rd.

Under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 21G, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) regulates the quantity of water that may be withdrawn from surface and groundwater systems. As a groundwater system, the Seekonk Water District is authorized to withdraw a daily average of 1.71 million gallons per day (MGD), equivalent to 624.15 million gallons per year (MGY).

Depending on weather conditions and water demand, annual withdrawals can exceed sustainable levels. The Annual Water Management Program is designed to ensure compliance with MassDEP withdrawal requirements and to protect the community's water supply.

Effective immediately, all non-essential outdoor water use is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to:

Lawn and landscape watering

Garden watering

Vehicle washing

Filling swimming pools

Any other non-essential outdoor water use.

Water District personnel and members of the Seekonk Police Department will monitor compliance and issue violation notices as necessary.

Violations will be subject to the following penalties:

First Offense: Written Warning

Second Offense: $50 Fine

Third Offense: $100 Fine

Fourth Offense: Water service termination until the continued violation is resolved
