Figueroa’s Big Day Propels East Providence Softball Past Pilgrim

Figueroa collected three hits in four at bats, as East Providence defeated Pilgrim 6-5 on Tuesday at East Providence High School. Figueroa hit a solo home run to left field in the first inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the sixth inning.

Pilgrim was the first to get on the board in the first when an error scored one run. The Townies captured the lead, 4-1, in the bottom of the first when Figueroa hit a solo home run to left field, Provencher doubled, scoring two runs, and a steal of home scored one run. Bryson tripled, which helped Pilgrim tie the game at four in the top of the fifth. East Providence took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Silva singled, scoring one run, to give East Providence Varsity Townies the leg up, 5-4.

Dulude earned the win for East Providence. The hurler allowed seven hits and five runs (four earned) over seven innings, striking out two and walking three. East Providence had 10 hits in the game. Provencher provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Townies with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-1 on the day. Pina and Welch each collected multiple hits for East Providence. Provencher and Figueroa each stole multiple bases for East Providence. East Providence had a total of eight stolen bases for the game.

East Providence plays at home on Friday against WW/Tollgate in their next game.

Baseball Loses Tough One To La Salle

Despite outslugging La Salle 6 hits to 1, East Providence lost its third game of the season by a slim 2-0 margin. La Salle benefitted by a couple of miscues in the field to score their two runs. Sophomore JJ Renaud was masterful on the mound giving up one hit and striking out six Ram batters, many in key spots of the game. The 10th grader did not issue a walk in a complete game stint.

The Townies hit the ball hard all through the game but many were right at players. Aidan Martins led East Providence with two hits. Gavin Palombo, Jayden Healey, Kyle Desrosiers and Max Correiro each added a hit. But for the Townies, it wasn’t enough to rally back in the game.

East Providence will travel to Moses Brown for their next game on Wednesday at 4:30pm.

The girls who scored are as follows:

Alyssa Karalekas 4 goals
Sydney Olson 2 goals
