Posted

It is with great sorrow we announce the loss of Steven J. "Mac" McDermott, 72, of East Providence, RI and Delray Beach, FL, who passed away suddenly at his East Providence home on July 4, 2022.

He was the devoted husband of the late Marilyn (Lewis) McDermott to whom he was married for 40 years.

Born in Providence, RI on March 3, 1950, he was the son of the late James and Pearl (Stevenson) McDermott.
He was a 1969 graduate of East Providence Senior High School. During his 20's he worked for Bird & Son's. A proud 41-year retired member of Pipefitters Local 4 Worcester, MA, he had worked on the construction of hospital operating rooms, elementary schools, Seabrook Nuclear Station and other power plants in New England.

Steven was an excellent pool player, a skilled wood carver, a tropical fishkeeper and a lifetime racecar enthusiast, especially of Chevys and Ferraris. For years he played Santa Claus both at public events and private parties. He enjoyed games of chance and reveled in winning.

Steven leaves many who loved him, sister Margaret Ann McAlarney, niece Mary Margaret McDermott, grandniece Helena Grace Rossi, godson Jason Lee Bartlett, many cousins and friends. He was the brother of the late Jimmy McDermott.

In memory of Steve Mac, please spend your time enjoying life. As Steven often told us,
“Every day is a holiday.”

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday July 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 118 Taunton Avenue, East Providence.
