Seekonk Public Schools has been invited to be on the Massachusetts School Building Authority's Eligibility List and the next step is to be included on the MSBA Capital Pipeline.
School committee chairman Robert Gerardi made the announcement at the December 15 meeting.
“We are excited to begin the process of work with the community and local government through the Eligibility Phase of the MSBA pipeline,” said Superintendent Rebecca Kidwell. “The School Committee's Buildings & Facilities Subcommittee will meet in January to begin forming a School Building Committee for this project. The entire project will likely take five to seven years and will include ample opportunity for public input as we determine the outcomes that will best serve the needs of the students and residents of Seekonk.”
The School Committee voted last September to send three options to the MSBA.
In one scenario for exploration, Seekonk High School could be expanded to serve Grades 6 – 12, with clear separation between the middle grades and the upper grades.
Another option is a renovated or new middle school serving Grades 6 through 8.
The final option for exploration is a Grades 5 through 8 middle school.
