Seekonk Continues to Support the Doorways Food Pantry

Posted

The volunteers and clients of the Doorways Food Pantry would like to thank the residents of the Town of Seekonk for the enormously generous response to help Doorways continue our mission to care for the neediest among us. This year has been an extremely difficult one for Doorways, with sharp increases in the number of clients served and even sharper increases in the cost of feeding those clients. But the community has responded in our time of need, supporting us at levels not seen before. We have seen a great many food drives by schools, churches, private businesses and civic organizations, as well as countless private individuals stopping by to make donations large and small. One local church donated thirty turkeys at Thanksgiving, while a local businessman and his family donated another thirty-two turkeys. We have received hundreds of donations since the pandemic hit – some quite modest, some quite substantial – that have combined together to keep food on the dinner tables of homes throughout our community.

Early in November, Doorways began its twentieth year in operation. That first week, seven families were served. This year, eighty families received a Thanksgiving meal through the Doorways food pantry. Over the course of the twenty years, hundreds and hundreds of families have received necessary support, and over one and a half million pounds of food has been distributed – all at no cost to our clients, and all made possible by the generosity of the people of Seekonk. Our gratitude is boundless - we are humbled by your support, awed by your generosity, and hopeful for the future. We give thanks for all you do, and ask the Lord’s blessing on you and your families this holiday season and in the coming year.
