Sally L. Hannaway, 90, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Bayview Rehabilitation at Scalabrini Villa. She was the wife of the late John "Jack" Hannaway.
Born in Lancaster, New Hampshire she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Mary Patricia (O'Leary) Gormley. Mrs. Hannaway taught History and Anthropology at Cranston High School West and was Department Chairperson of the History Department. Sally enjoyed teaching for 36 years before her retirement at age 77.
She leaves four children, Cheryl P. Hodgdon and her partner James DeAngelis, Deana K. Orr and her husband Thomas B. Orr, Sr., Kim A. McGovern and the late Bob McGovern and Nanette E. Clark and her husband William Clark, five grandchildren, Thomas B. Orr, Jr., Nicholas S. Orr, Billy F. Clark, Sarah E. Clark and Meaghan P. McGovern and many loving nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Kenneth D. Hodgdon and sister of the late Patricia Hall, Nancy Bue, Timothy Gormley and Susan Jacklin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 10:00 AM in St. Luke's Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-7 PM in the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence.
As Sally was a cancer survivor herself, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
