Riverside Middle School Holds Annual Career Day

Posted

8th grade students strutted the halls in business-casual attire at Riverside Middle School’s annual Career Day on Friday, March 24, 2017.

Every year, the Riverside Guidance Department puts together a Career Day Program for students in 8th grade, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at noon. Career Day brings together students and professionals from various occupations. Students were separated into groups to attend three presentations given by professionals in a variety of career fields. A total of 35 speakers attended this career day program including a doctor, nurse, computer engineer, airman, teacher, chef, banker, chemist, hairdresser, lawyer, auto mechanic, accountant, actress, fire fighter, social worker, cosmetologist, physical therapist, veterinarian, meteorologist, artist, video editor and a police officer, to name a few.

The keynote speaker for Career Day was Kim Zandy, a local radio personality. Ms. Zandy gave a 45 minute presentation in the Auditorium for all 8th grade students, where she shared her impressive, vast experience in radio.

The power of career day for middle school students is to see a diverse group of professions and professionals to get them thinking on what they want to be and what educational path will take them there. It is a wonderful experience for the students and we are thankful to our presenters.
