Rehoboth Participates in Wreaths Across America

Posted

Hundreds of town residents braved the cold at the Veterans Memorial at Redway Plain Saturday to honor the sacrifices of those who gave their lives for this country.

The event was part of the National Wreaths Across America Day 2025. Nearly 600 wreaths were purchased through donations and placed at the graves of veterans in the Rehoboth Village Cemetery on Bay State Road.

Speakers included Palmer River Elementary School Principal Kristine Kefor and students Payson Bairos, Melody Elin, Lily Lindberg, and Weston Whitmore.

Nathan Rubin spoke on behalf of State Representative Steven Howitt, R-Seekonk.

“Keep moving forward,” said Jaime Papineau, Location Coordinator for Poppy’s Crew Sponsorship Group.

“These three words capture the spirit that veterans carry every single day. They move through challenges with courage and strength and love for their country and fellow citizens,” Papineau added. “We remember by cherishing their stories, by being present, speaking their names, and insuring they are never forgotten. Honoring them is something we do together. We teach because the future depends on it, for our children learn the meaning of service, gratitude, and sacrifice.”

Wreaths were laid in front of the memorial gazebo for members of each branch of the military, the US Space Force, US Merchant Marines, POW/MIA, firefighters/first responders, and members of law enforcement.

Margie Rieske read a poem she wrote to honor veterans called “Our Legacy.”

Craig Grant performed the National Anthem.

Reverend Jonathan Ryder delivered the invocation and benediction.

Members of the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School Marching Band performed before the ceremony.

The Rehoboth Police Honor Guard presented the colors.
The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Lt. Stephen Small of the Pawtucket Fire Department gave a bag piper salute to the military at the conclusion of the ceremony.
