Possible New Date for Rehoboth Town Election

Posted

Voters might have to wait a little bit longer to cast ballots in the spring town election. The election, featuring contested races for open seats on the Board of Selectmen and the Dighton-Rehoboth School Committee, was scheduled for April 6.  Selectmen voted Monday to hold the election on April 10 after Town Clerk Laura Schwall said Palmer River Elementary School would not be available during the week due to the school’s hybrid learning. Schwall explained there would be problems with access to the building, as well as parking. April 10 is a Saturday, when school is not in session. The town’s legal counsel will be consulted about the date change. Palmer River was used as the town’s polling location for the November election after the Council on Aging was destroyed by fire in September. Selectman Gerry Schwall wanted candidates for town offices to be notified of the change in dates immediately.
