Palmira Vieira Martins Macedo DoVale, 87, of East Providence passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday November 24, 2021, in her home. She was pre-deceased by her husband Jose P. DoVale.

Palmira was born in Brava, Cape Verde Islands, a daughter of late Manuel and Kilda Macedo.

She worked for Trifari as a jewelry inspector and later at Martin Copeland for over 20 years before retiring in 1992.

Palmira lived in East Providence for over 60 years and earlier was a resident of Jersey City, N.J. She was the first in her family to immigrate to America in 1956 and successfully helped immigrate her entire family to the United States thus helping them all achieve the American dream.

She leaves behind six children, Fatima F. DoVale of East Providence, Jose P. DoVale Jr. and his wife Suzanne of Rumford, John Manny DoVale and his wife Maria of East Providence, Alceu F. DoVale and his fiancé Kris Bienvenue of East Providence, Diana D. Medeiros and her husband Charles of Rumford and Kenneth M. DoVale of Bowie, Maryland.

She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Palmira is survived by three sisters. Sister Maria Fernanda Macedo of Boston, MA, Eugenia M. Carvalhal of East Providence, and Maria M. Gomes of Boston MA.

She is also survived by sister in laws, Maria V. Barros, and Aida Macedo, both of East Providence, Silvia DeMacedo of Plymouth, MA and Patricia Vale of Fairhaven, MA.

Palmira was pre-deceased by four brothers and two sisters. Joaquim Macedo, Carlos Macedo, Maria Lourdes Almeida, Alceu DeMacedo, Olavo Macedo, and Nilza Varela. As well as her brother-in-law Pedro Vale and her sister-in-law, Carlotta Vale.

She enjoyed tending to her rose bushes, telling stories, an avid shopper, playing Bisca with her family, road trips to Foxwoods, winning scratch tickets, and beating her grandchildren at Mancala.

Palmira’s favorite places to visit were by the ocean while enjoying clam cakes and lobster rolls.

Most of all, she loved spending time with her family celebrating life, happiness, and everything Morabeza!

Her home was always the gathering place for summer celebrations always filled with love.

She will be deeply missed and always held close to the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to call her Mom, Mommy, Vovo and Big Vovo.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Martha's Church, Pawtucket Avenue. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday 4-8.
