Old Bridgewater Historical Society Program Announced

Posted

West Bridgewater, MA --- The Old Bridgewater Historical Society will present a lecture entitled “Follow the Money: Go-to Records for Tracing Ancestors on the Move” on Sunday, February 9th beginning at 2 p.m. , at the Memorial Building located at 162 Howard Street in West Bridgewater. Melanie McComb will be the speaker.

Our ancestors moved near and far seeking economic opportunities, religious freedom, and closeness to family. These mobile ancestors can be notoriously difficult to research. When this occurs, we follow the paper trail that our ancestors left behind in the form of deeds, probate records, tax rolls, pension files, and more. This talk will provide strategies on how to use these records to track your ancestors across America and overseas.

Presented by Melanie McComb, a staff genealogist for American Ancestors and the New England Historic Genealogical Society. She is also an international lecturer with expertise in Irish genealogy, New
England, Prince Edward Island, Jewish genealogy, DNA, social media, and military records. Melanie is a blogger known as The Shamrock Genealogist.

Admission is free; a $5 donation is suggested. Light refreshments will be provided. In case of inclement weather, the program will be postponed to February 16th at 2 p.m.

This program has applied for support from the Bridgewater Cultural Council which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. (www.massculturalcouncil.org)

The Old Bridgewater Historical Society, a private organization, started in 1894, is dedicated to the collection, preservation, and publication of history relating to the original Bridgewater area, which includes the towns of Bridgewater, East Bridgewater, West Bridgewater, and the city of Brockton.
