Book Sale Sat. Oct. 9
Come to the Blanding Library on Sat. Oct. 9 for a one-day used book sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This sale, sponsored by the Friends of the Blanding Library, is open to all and will offer a wide variety of books, hardcover and paperback, fiction and non-fiction, as well as children’s books. The sale will take place indoors at Goff Hall and masks are required for all. We hope to see you there!

FRIENDS ANNUAL MEETING: The Friends of the Blanding Library will hold their annual meeting on Tues. Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at the library. All members of this volunteer organization are invited to attend; new members are always welcome.

The Blanding is now requiring all patrons to wear masks while in the building. If you forget, there is a supply at the front desk. If you don’t want to wear a mask or come into the building, the library staff can deliver library materials to them curbside. WiFi is available outside the building without a password.

Ancestry.com at Library
Just a reminder that the Blanding has a new resource available to our patrons. Now you can access the popular genealogy website Ancestry.com from inside the library. The Blanding is now subscribing to Ancestry-Library Edition, so people can search the Ancestry databases while at the library.  Remote access to Ancestry.com also allows library patrons access to the site from home or elsewhere; this remote access service is available through the end of the year. You will need to use your SAILS library card. If you do not already have one, it is easy to sign up for a free library card at the Blanding. For more information stop by the front desk or call 508-252-4236. The website for Ancestry.com is https://ancestrylibrary.proquest.com.

Story Walk and More for Kids
Now that it’s autumn, the new Story Walk, sponsored by the Friends of the Blanding,   has arrived in the library’s front garden. It features author Helen Cooper's book called “Pumpkin Soup”.  Visitors may walk their way through this delightful story of friendship and sharing.  As they finish the story, there will be an offer to pick up a Take & Make scarecrow craft at the library's front desk.  Young patrons will be able to visit our indoor paper pumpkin patch in our children’s library, where they may add their name and title of a favorite book to the display.

Miss Joyce and Miss Cathy will continue to hold Stories on the Lawn.  Children and their parents/caregivers are invited to join us for a fun interactive program featuring books, music, games and more.   This is targeted for children through age 4 but siblings are welcome too.  Please register in advance.  Plans are for being outdoors when weather permits; indoors if need be.  Be prepared for either. Check our website calendar for exact dates and times.

Miss Joyce will continue her virtual Story Adventure.  Be sure to see where she takes us next!  Westborough Public Library is sharing a Discovery STEM program to be held (via Zoom) Tuesday Sept. 28 from 4 - 4:45pm, called “NASA's Artemis Program -- Our Return to the Moon.”  This program is for children currently in grades 3 to 5 and registration is required.  Blanding Library will post this event on our Facebook page and website.  Click on their posting for details.  Thank you Westborough Public Library for inviting us, too.

“Chalk the Walk” continues in October. Stop by the desk at the Blanding for colored chalk so you can leave your original artwork on a square of the front walk for all to enjoy.

The Blanding Library, 124 Bay State Rd., is open Mon. through Thurs. from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Friday and Sat. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed Sundays and holidays, including Monday, Oct. 11.
