On the second anniversary of his passing, the Seekonk Lions Club formally dedicated the Cole Street soccer fields at the Francis Gallishaw Soccer Complex in honor of Neal Abelson.
On Sunday, September 13, 2026, the Abelson family, friends, local officials, and Lions members gathered for the ceremony honoring Neal. After a brief introduction, Seekonk Lions Club President Paul Buckley introduced Carl Abelson, Neal’s son, who designed the sign.
Carl spoke about Neal’s passion and commitment to the Seekonk community and his legacy in the youth soccer league. He also thanked the Lions Club and its leadership for advocating to the town and school committee to make the naming possible. Members of the club individually donated funds to have the sign made.
The beautiful sign was unveiled by Carl and his family. The installation will be completed at the field marquee in the coming weeks. The Seekonk Lions Club would like to thank Town Administrator Shawn Cadime, Select Board Member Chris Zorra, and State Rep. Steven Howitt for attending.
