Nancy Plummer Batty, 80, a life-long resident of East Providence, passed away on December 16, 2024. She was born in Boundbrook, NJ, and grew up in Rumford, the daughter of Wendy (Kinnell) and Elliott B. Plummer. She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Burton P. Batty Jr.; her children, Kristen E. Batty and Peter B. Batty of East Providence; her grandchildren Shannon (Batty) Fenerjian and her husband Stephen Fenerjian of Sharon MA, Taylor Batty, and Alison Batty, both of East Providence; great-grandchildren Ruben and Mia Batty and Alek and Aiden Fenerjian all of Sharon MA; sister Anne S. Plummer of Winona MN; and sister-in-law Barbara S. Brown of East Providence.

At age 15, Nancy traveled to Europe with her Girl Scout troop, forming lifelong friendships with her fellow Scouts that she cherished throughout her life. Despite living states away, they stayed in touch through their monthly Zoom meetings that lasted hours on end.

Nancy graduated from East Providence Senior High, and trained as a dental assistant. She worked for Dr. Carpenter of Providence for several years. Nancy married the love of her life, Burt, in 1965. They settled in East Providence and lived on the same street as many of their relatives, with whom they built a close-knit, multi-generational, extended family that continues to be vibrant today.

Nancy sold real estate for Batty Realty and Century 21 Butterman and Kryston and was very active throughout her life at Newman Congregational Church in Rumford. There she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Trustee, and Moderator, and volunteered for many years to organize the May Breakfast and work the Christmas Bazaar, among many other roles. Nancy’s passions included volunteering at the Good Neighbors food pantry, gardening, photography, and bowling with friends—a tradition she enjoyed for over 30 years. Above all else, she enjoyed being with her family and taking care of her granddaughters and great-grandchildren when they were young.

Summers were often spent at the family’s beloved lake house on Waterman Lake in North Scituate, RI, a treasured gathering place filled with memories. Burt and Nancy were known for their many sunset pontoon boat rides and annual 4th of July parties. Whenever newcomers visited the lake, Nancy was always eager to share the rich history of the waterside homes.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, who provided excellent comfort and care during Nancy’s final days.

Nancy’s kindness, dedication, and deep love for Burt and their family will be forever remembered by all who knew her.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024 at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a service at 10:00 AM in Newman Congregational Church, 100 Newman Avenue, Rumford. Burial will be in Rumford Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday 4-7. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Newman Congregational Church Scholarship Fund, or to HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center.
