Myron Thomas "Chuck" Dourado,84, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away, unexpectedly on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA. Born on February 11, 1940, in Providence, RI, Chuck was a man of exceptional character known for his generosity, handiness, and creativity.
Chuck's life was one rich in love and accomplishment. He was the devoted husband of Marilyn M. (McLaughlin) Dourado for over 66 years, a testament to their enduring partnership and mutual affection. The son of the late Myron and Demmie G. (Bettencourt) Dourado, he was a guiding light in the lives of his children M. Thomas and his wife Ann of CT, James T. of RI, Sharon M. of MA, and Sandra M. of MA. His legacy extends through his eight grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter who will carry his memory forward.
Chuck was a graduate of East Providence High School, Class of 1957. After completing his education, he embarked on a successful career as a jewelry designer with L.G. Balfour, where he dedicated over 30 years of his life to crafting beauty and elegance. His work was not just a job but a canvas for his artistic talents, leaving a lasting impression on the industry. He also worked for Gold Crown Jewelry company where he made jewelry and he was an award designer, for trophies, etc.
Beyond his professional achievements, Chuck was known for his vibrant personal interests. A longtime resident of Seekonk since 1963, originally hailing from East Providence, he was a devout parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, formerly known as St. Mary's. His spiritual devotion was a cornerstone of his life, providing guidance and comfort throughout his years.
An avid Ham Radio Operator, Chuck was known by his call sign "AA1RO" since 1976. This hobby allowed him to connect with people across the world, sharing stories and forging friendships over the airwaves. His voice became familiar and welcome to those he encountered in this unique community.
Chuck's love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for gardening, where he found peace and satisfaction in the growth and bloom of each season. Woodworking was another of his talents, often spending hours with his buddy Jameson creating beautiful pieces that showcased his skill and attention to detail. His hands were rarely still, always working on a project or lending a hand to those in need.
A member of the Balfour Gold Dusters, Chuck's community involvement reflected his belief in giving back and supporting others. His generous spirit was known to all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his willingness to help anyone in need was a hallmark of his character.
Chuck is survived by his sister-in-law Susan M. McLaughlin, and brothers-in-law Thomas D. McLaughlin and his wife Kathleen of Alabama, Stephen J. McLaughlin of RI, and Robert J. McLaughlin and his wife Shirleyan of RI. His presence will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
Chuck's life was a testament to the power of kindness, creativity, and dedication. His impact on the world was as intricate and beautiful as the designs he lovingly crafted. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours for Chuck on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 4:00pm-7:00pm in the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, RI, and a funeral home service will be held on Saturday at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Seekonk Cemetery.
