Marie Nina Leroy, 87 of Riverside, Rhode Island passed away peacefully on April 16, 2023, at The HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center.

Born in Somerville, MA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph James Mercurio and Angela Elizabeth (Mercurio) Castle. She was the beloved wife of the late L. Neil LeRoy for 61 wonderful years. Marie and Neil met while she was attending Boston University and he was attending Harvard Law School.

Marie and Neil made Cumberland, RI their home for 30 years, before moving to Hilton Head Island, SC where they embraced the lowcountry life for almost 25 years. Throughout her life, Marie was known for her beauty, elegance, and charm and as the friend that could always be counted on to help in any way. An active volunteer, Marie was involved in many charitable organizations. Her activism included strong engagement in local, state, and national politics.

Marie loved the outdoors and staying active. She was an avid golfer, gardener, and an accomplished tennis player, still competing nationally into her 70’s. She was known for her gourmet cooking and love of entertaining, the consummate hostess to a wide circle of dear friends. Marie and Neil were active patrons of the theater and symphony. They loved international travel, visiting over 35 countries and making lifelong friendships throughout their journeys.

Marie is survived by her children, Gregory LeRoy and his wife Siobhan of Houston, TX, Marlene LeRoy of Providence, RI, Geoffrey LeRoy and his partner Claire Bousquet of Hilton Head Island, SC, the late Scott LeRoy, and Jacqueline Butler and husband Chris Butler of Parker, CO. She was also the cherished grandmother to Alexandra Carufel, Jessica Butler, and Jake Butler.

She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, her loving siblings Beverly Anderson, Joseph Mercurio, Frank and Lenore Mercurio, and her many nieces and nephews.
