Joseph A. Botelho

Joseph A. Botelho, 91, of Plymouth Road, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at the Linn Health Care Center. He was the husband of Joan B. (Dooley) Botelho.

Born in East Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Linhares) Botelho. Mr. Botelho was a Science teacher for the East Providence School Department for 32 years before he retired in 1989, at Central Junior High School and Martin Middle School. During the summer months, he loved driving the bus for the East Providence Recreation Department transporting the summer playground kids to some of the State’s best beaches such as Sand Hill Cove, Scarborough, Arcadia State Park, and Pulaski Beach. He was the ultimate Townie, having lived and worked in East Providence all his life. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the P.C. Friars, and he was also a 1957 graduate of Providence College. Mr. Botelho enjoyed being king of the backyard family barbecues, vacations at Misquamicut and was proficient as a skilled carpenter. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Besides his wife he leaves five sons, Joseph A. Botelho, Jr. and his wife Mary, John L. Botelho and his wife Tracey, David M. Botelho and his wife Sandra, Alan S. Botelho and his wife Lynn and Paul B. Botelho, seven grandchildren, Melissa, Joseph, Neil, Casey, Sarah, Seth and Lucy.

His funeral service will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. The burial will be at Gates of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Sunday 5-7.
