Joan Patricia (Chapman) Vaughan of Rumford, RI, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on November 21, 2021. She is survived by her five loving children, Linda Vaughan-Dubois (Paul Dubois), Daniel Vaughan, M. David Vaughan, Richard Vaughan and Rebecca Chapman (William Chapman). Joan was the grandmother to Andrew Santos, Phil Santos, Julia Vaughan, Nathan Vaughan, Alex Chapman, Adam Chapman & Audrey Chapman and great-grandmother to Anya Santos and Gabriel Santos.

Born in 1932 in Cranston, RI, she was the daughter of the late Edmund & Gladys (Horton) Chapman. She graduated from Cranston East High School and was active in her church and the Eastern Star. She was known for her understated sense of humor and her love of horses and books. Joan was a wonderful and loving mother and was happiest when her children were around her. A member of the Hikers Club of RI for several years, she engaged her children in hiking and enjoying the outdoors. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling with her late companion, Dick Woodbine.

She worked at Rhode Island Hospital in Facilities Management for nearly 40 years before retiring at the age of 78.

Visiting hours are at the Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Avenue, Riverside, RI on Saturday, Dec 11th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 A.M. A Celebration of Life will follow at The Church of the Epiphany 1336 Pawtucket Avenue, Riverside, RI. Masks are required.
