Greater Taunton Woman’s Club Friendsgiving event

Posted

The GFWC Greater Taunton Woman’s Club had a Friendsgiving event on Sunday, August 6th at the Portuguese American Civic Club in Taunton from noon to 3pm. The event was organized to thank those individuals and organizations that have helped our club members in their mission to better serve our communities. Appreciation to our members, their families and friends was shown through a wonderful afternoon of food, entertainment, and social interaction.

Recognition was given to our thirty-seven supporting organizations that regularly support our club consisting of nonprofit organizations, restaurants, churches, schools, florists, bakeries, veteran associations, supermarkets, small family businesses, newsrooms, and on-line information specialist.

The event included a small history and video presentation about our club’s involvement in the thirteen communities we serve. Entertainment was provided by a local ukulele group the “Unlikely Strummers” directed by Cindy Miller who put a smile on everyone’s face while singing and dancing along.

Food was provided by DeAvila’s Catering service along with homemade desserts by club members.

Invited speakers who support our club by attending our fundraising events spoke about our club’s support within the Greater Taunton region included: Massachusetts Representative Carol Doherty, Mayor Shaunna O’Connell, and Council Member John McCaul. Present were three of our seven scholarship recipients: Victoria Rego, Katherine Ashley, and Caelen O’Leary who each received a $500 scholarship. This year $3,500 in scholarship money has been awarded by our club along with thousands more over the 73 years our club has been in existence.

The event was concluded with 2 door prizes donated by the membership.
