GFWC Taunton and Raynham Junior Woman's Club News

Members of the GFWC Taunton and Raynham Junior Woman's Club attended the virtual GFWC MA Combined Conference this past weekend. Awards were announced for state clubs participating in many contests and Department initiatives in 2020. The GFWC Taunton Raynham Jr's received a Minor Award in Education for sending Encouragement Cards from local school children to El Paso Texas; a Minor Award for Women's History and Resource Center with their Iced Tea Event in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment, Women's Right to Vote in 1920, and Health and Wellness for their support and donations to Prime Time Senior Day Center in Dighton. They received two Major awards, one in Leadership and the other in Legislation and Public Policy. Club woman Joyce Clark was the recipient of the Club Woman of the Year nominated by the GFWC Bay State Contemporary Club and her grandson Rob Burdick was the recipient of the Ricky Gomes Scholarship from GFWC. Member Nancy Brown was one of the Photography Contest 's winners, and the Club received the Small Silver Bowl in the large club category for overall activities and programs.

The club remains active in pursuit of helping the communities around us. Seven scholarships were distributed to the local high schools, the club has held two clothing drives, members have knitted and donated hats and blankets to March of Dimes, and they are holding their annual tea fundraiser this month in a safe and welcoming way with a pick up and go package.

Women interested in becoming a part of this active and lively group dedicated to enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service, and are at least 18 years old, should contact Joyce Clark at 508 823-4482 for more information.

Meetings may be held online temporarily. However, May's meeting was held at USMC League Hall in Somerset as our first in person meeting in the past year, and which is usually our last meeting until September, but we hope to be able to resume our in person meetings at that time.
