Eric Vargas, formerly of Riverside, has made waves in the fishing world after winning the 2025 Bluefin Blowout—the largest Bluefin Tuna Tournament in the world. Competing aboard a 26-foot Cobia Center Console, Vargas and his crew landed a massive 728-pound Bluefin tuna to take the top prize.
The tournament, held annually in Gloucester, Massachusetts, raises funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association, a cause close to many of the participating teams. Eric and his crew were awarded $162,000 in cash and prizes—and in a generous gesture, they are donating a portion of their winnings back to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Vargas, who was raised in Riverside and now lives and works in Boston, credits his hometown roots and love of the water for shaping his passion and competitive spirit. His achievement is not just a personal victory but a point of pride for the local community.
