Elsie Drew Buffum

Elsie Drew Buffum, died peacefully in East Providence on April 14, 2023. Elsie was born in Providence on April 14, 1923, daughter of Benjamin and Dorothy (Stone) Peck of Barrington. Elsie was married to the late Timothy N Buffum. She was previously married to the late A. Richmond Peirce. She was predeceased by her siblings, Benjamin T Peck and Marilyn Jespersen.

Elsie grew up in Barrington and graduated from the Lincoln School and from the Pierce School in Boston. A lifelong Rhode Island resident, she was a member of the First Unitarian Church of Providence, the John Howland Society, the Richard Warren Mayflower Society, the Roger Williams Society, and the DAR, as well as the Providence Art Club and Hamilton House. Loyal though they were to Rhode Island, Elsie and Tim were avid and intrepid travelers who saw a lot of the world, including Kenya, Panama, Thailand, and Alaska during their marriage.

Elsie is survived by her niece Elsie Peck, nephews Benjamin Peck, Stephen Peck, and Henry Jespersen, and four step-sons: Timothy, David, Jeffrey, and John Buffum. They, and their families, will miss her and remember her calm, practical outlook.

Burial will be a private service for family at Swan Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tockwotton on the Waterfront.
