Ellen L. Vermette, 76, a longtime resident of Seekonk, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in the loving arms of family. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard A. "Dick" Vermette.

Born in Malden, MA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ellen (Schenck) Coffey. She began her decades long and impressive career in education at the Barrington School District until at the height of her career she was appointed principal of Pascoag Elementary School in Burriville. Her calling continued as she became the first principal at Steere Farm Elementary School, where she retired.

Following her retirement she continued to teach, administer, and mentor at Lakeville, MA and Pawtucket public schools. She was truly dedicated to her profession and enjoyed a mutual love and respect with all of the students and colleagues in every district she served.

Ellen was a devote Roman Catholic and a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Seekonk. She was an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, where she served as president. She was also an active volunteer in her community throughout her life.

She leaves two children, Bryan D. Vermette of Kasilof, Alaska and Janet Anne Vermette of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; two grandchildren, Charlie and Mason Vermette; one brother, Arthur Coffey; and a sister, Lynda Zartarian. She was the sister of the late Maureen Coffey.

A lover of knowledge, education, and travel, Ellen truly enjoyed sharing these interests with the people around her. Ellen's deep love for her family was central to her life and clear to all who knew her. She had a talent for making friends and will be greatly missed by everyone.

Her funeral will be help on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 9 am from PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 984 Taunton Avenue, Seekonk. Burial with be in Seekonk Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday 4-8 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ellen's memory to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Mount Carmel Church in Seekonk.
