East Providence Senior Center April 2020 Newsletter
Letter from the Mayor:
I know it has been difficult but I am encouraging all older adults to continue to follow the recommendations and guidelines put forth by Governor Gina Raimondo and The Rhode Island Department of Health as per the recommendations made by the Centers for Disease Control. In an effort to provide addition supports to East Providence Seniors as you follow the social distancing recommendations, I have put in place a service run out of the East Providence Senior Center called Stay at Home Services for Seniors. Please call the East Providence Senior Center at 401-435-7800 to speak to one of our dedicated Senior Center staff who can assist you with providing information or by connecting you to needed resources. Through a generous donation made by Stop and Shop, the Senior Center staff have available to them 200 gift cards worth $2,000 which will be used by the staff to purchase needed essentials for those, 60 years of age and over or disabled, who are unable to drive, are isolated or have been told to quarantine. As of the printing of this newsletter, the East Providence Senior Center remains closed for all activities, however all Senior Center staff will continue to be available to support our older adult residents, members of the Senior Center and their families any way we can.
Stay safe,
Bob DaSilva, Mayor

We Share Hope
Thank you to We Share Hope who made our food distribution event a success! We Share Hope and other community partners donated fresh food to deliver to our older adult residents of East Providence. City of East Providence and volunteers were able to give out 600 bags of food to assist our seniors during this difficult time. Cars drove up and our seniors were each given a bag of food. This way we all were able to adhere to the recommended social distancing and still get food into the hands of those who needed it most. It truly was a community effort.
