DESE Approves Waiver for Dighton-Rehoboth

Posted

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has approved Superintendent Bill Runey’s request for a waiver of the 180-day requirement for this school year.

“As a result, we are able to move the last day of school to Friday, June 26, while remaining fully compliant with the state’s instructional time requirements,” Runey wrote in a letter to parents. “Both April 8 and June 26 will now be full school days. This adjustment is subject to formal approval by the School Committee, which is scheduled for the April 1st meeting.

We also want to share the updated schedule for several important end-of-year events. Please contact the building administration for additional details.”

- Middle School Promotion Ceremonies: June 25

- Dighton Elementary's Grade 4 Promotion: June 17

- Palmer River's Grade 4 Promotion: June 26

- Little Falcons Preschool Ceremony: June 18

- PRES/DES PreK Ceremonies - TBA

“As we move forward, we recognize that this calendar change has contractual implications, and we will work collaboratively with our bargaining units to address those considerations,” Runey added.
