Deacon Emirutus, Ralph J. Simmons, Sr. 99, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at his home.

He was the husband of Alcenira (Gomes) Simmons and the late Maye (Williams) Simmons.

Born in Columbia, South Carolina, he was the son of the late William and Ada (Jenkins) McKinly.

Mr. Simmons was a Cartographer for the United States Government making maps for the armed forces before retiring. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the 366th Infantry Regiment. He served as a Deacon Emirutus for the 2nd Free Will Baptist Church. He had been a member of the church for 70 years.

Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Roddie Simmons and his wife Carminha of Brazil and Michael Simmons of San Francisco , four grandchildren, Lukas, Claire, Elisabeth and Summer Simmons. He was the brother of the late Billy, Theodore and Vivian Simmons and the late June McCrae.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 10:30 AM in the 2nd Free Will Baptist Church, 75 Chester Avenue, Providence. Burial will be held in Springvale Cemetery, East Providence. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
