C. Buckley Cooney 61, passed away peacefully at home on April 28th, surrounded by his three children and his wife, after a brief and heroic battle with cancer. Buckley was the cherished husband of Jan Cooney and extraordinary father to Nicholas, Sam and Lizzie Cooney. The youngest of ten children, he was born in Providence, and was the son of the late Elizabeth (Shawcross) Cooney and the Honorable Leo M. Cooney. Buckley's pride and passion was in spending time with his children, from traveling together to sharing his talents as a coach and number-one fan.

Buckley brightened every room he entered without bringing attention to himself, but wearing a big smile and offering a handshake or hug. A graduate of LaSalle Academy and University of RI, he spent more than 20 years working for Oracle Corporation where he was admired for being a fair and ethical leader who knew that character was a key to success.

He is survived by eight siblings: Elizabeth Sklut, Barbara Dixon, Dr. Leo Cooney, Bill Cooney, M. Lou Cooney, Philip Cooney, Nancy Cooney and Joe Cooney and dozens of adoring nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late David Cooney. He was treasured by his family and will be greatly missed and always lovingly remembered and celebrated.
