Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island and the Town of Bristol Announce Continuing Partnership

Bristol—Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island (BBBSRI) and the Town of Bristol are excited to announce the continuing growth of their on-going partnership. In 2020, Bristol and BBBSRI have helped divert over 27,000 lbs of unwanted items from the state's landfill, all while helping hundreds of kids throughout the state grow, learn, and achieve.

“We're thrilled to be working with this vibrant community,” says Katje Afonseca, CEO of BBBSRI, adding, “We've already made an impact together, and that impact is only going to grow as we move closer to summer.” Currently, BBBSRI is conducting a donation pick-up program just in time to help residents do their part while also cleaning out those closets! On the second Saturday in each month, BBBSRI trucks will be available to collect donations at the Bristol Transfer Station, 6 Minturn Farm Rd. Bristol, RI, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The next scheduled day for collections is Saturday, June 12.

“It makes a difference,” says Chris Parella, Head of the Department of Works. “People donate one or two bags of clothes and it doesn't seem like much. But if we all do our part, we can help keep thousands of pounds out of that landfill. Every little bit makes a big difference.”

BBBSRI also offers free at-home pickup of bagged clothing and fabric. BBBSRI collects all dry, odorless, and bagged clothing of all seasons, sizes, and genders, and that includes shoes, towels, sheets, curtains, and other household fabrics. Visit www.BigsRI.org/DonateRI   to schedule your pick-up online, or call 401-921-2434.
