Barbara A. Sweeney, 80, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025 at home. She was the wife of the late William J. Sweeney.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Elaine (Bailey) Carrier. Before she retired, Mrs. Sweeney worked for the Herff Jones Company, formerly known as Dieges & Clust. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed going to the casinos, and she loved traveling- especially to Las Vegas and on cruises. She also had a strong passion for cookies!
She leaves three children, Donna M. Scanlon and her husband Joseph, Scott V. Goss, and William J. Sweeney, Jr. and his wife Sydney, one sister, Cathy Gomes, two brothers, Dennis C. Carrier and Kevin J. Carrier, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Terrie A. Johnson.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 9:30 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart Church, 118 Taunton Avenue. Burial will be in Rumford Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 4-7 PM.
