Alice M. Wright of Attleboro, MA died peacefully at home on August 9, 2026. Born July 29, 1931 in East Providence, she was a daughter of the late Mary B. (Doyle) Watts and Captain William W. Watts, Sr. and sister of the late William W. Watts, Jr. (Leona), George E. Watts and Florence “Peggy” Watts Devlin (John).
Alice was a graduate of East Providence High School and Bryant College. After graduation, she was secretary to the Dean at Bryant College and then joined Amica Insurance. She later worked for DuPont in Rumford, RI before moving to Chevron which became Gulf Oil which was then purchased by Cumberland Farms.
She married Lt. Donald C. Wright, Sr. and moved to Rehoboth, MA where they raised Siberian Huskies and co-founded the Narragansett Bay Sled Dog Club with Alice serving as its secretary. She was also a charter member of the Rehoboth Anawan Lion Club and served on the Board of Directors.
In 1999, she relocated to Attleboro, MA where she joined the Senior Center and worked with the newsletter team.
Alice enjoyed many sports including skiing, tennis, swimming, boating and running 5K races. An enthusiastic traveler, she went across the country by camper, enjoyed vacationing on Cape Cod, and visited many European countries and searched for distant relatives on a trip to Ireland.
After retirement, she enjoyed taking her grandchildren to their many activities and watching them grow into young adults. Alice loved romantic ballads from the 1950’s and 60’s and at age 70 she learned to play the piano and helped interest a grandson in music. She also enjoyed parades, woodworking and spending time with her family.
Alice is survived by her daughter Catherine “Katie” McCarthy; her grandchildren Kelly M. Bialorucki (Michael), William F. Clement (Isabela), Mary Catherine Clement, Elizabeth A. Barr (David) and Allison S. Pachomski (Jason) and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her step children Cheryl W. Daysh (Alfred), Donald C. Wright, Jr. (Doreen), Kenneth A. Wright (Natalia), Jean L. DeBeaulieu (Donald) and Douglas G. Wright (Roberta).
Alice was also the aunt of William W. Watts, III, John A. Devlin, Jr., George E. Devlin, Mary Anne Devlin, Emily W. Riley (Dr. James), Margaret M. Devlin, John A. Devlin, Jr. and the late Marjorie Begin.
Her funeral will be held on Monday, August 24, 2025 at 9:30 am from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Coyle Drive, Seekonk, MA. Burial in Thomas Cemetery, Swansea, MA. Calling Hours on Sunday, August 23, 2026 from 3-5 pm.
