Select Board Candidates Meet Again

Posted

The candidates for two open seats on the Seekonk Select Board met in a televised forum on March 19. Robert Archambault and Elizabeth Elmasian answered questions from local media. Incumbent Michelle Hines did not participate.

Michael Dressler served as Moderator. The Town Election is on April 6.

One of the topics was recreational fields. The Medeiros Farm project was cited by both candidates.

“We’ve already seen the bylaws violated with the way the (Medeiros Farm Committee) was put together,” Elmasian said. “I think we need to slow down and take the project as a whole.”

Archambault expressed concerns about increased traffic on Lincoln Street if new soccer fields were installed.

Archambault and Elmasian believe a South End Fire Station is needed due to a growing population and new businesses in that area of town.

Archambault noted the project met with “serious resistance” from Hines, who voted against placing the project on a ballot. The project had been rejected at two town meetings in 2025.

“It’s a tragedy waiting to happen,” Elmasian noted.

Archambault referred to the number of lawsuits filed against the town in recent years, including one by former Police Chief Dean Isabella.

Isabella won a $136,000 settlement in 2024. Isabella is still seeking $2.2 million in damages for the harm he believes was inflicted to his career and reputation, which remains pending in the Massachusetts Federal District Court in Boston.

“That was poor governance,” Archambault said. “These are your tax dollars and you’re paying for these mistakes.”

Elmasian stressed fiscal responsibility and believes the Select Board needs to find ways to save money.

“It takes being creative and being able to think outside the box.”

The forum will be broadcast at various times on TV9.
