Seekonk Voters Approve Turf Field Funds

Posted

Voters at Monday’s special election approved $2.7 million in funding for a new artificial turf field at Seekonk High School. The vote was 546 to 408 for a debt exclusion from state tax levy-limiting law Proposition 2 1/2. The 954 residents who cast ballots represented less than 10 percent of the town’s 11,244 registered voters.

School Superintendent Rich Drolet said he was “thrilled the community voted to support the new track and turf field at Seekonk High School.”

“This will totally improve our high school athletics facility and complement other work we have recently completed there, such as the new tennis courts and outdoor basketball court,” Drolet continued. “Our student-athletes will get so much more time playing there in the future on a top-notch track and turf field, and our community will also be able to come use the new track and turf field when it is completed. I am excited to continue to work on seeing this project through, and we look forward to the ground-breaking and ultimate completion of this project, which hopefully can be done within the next year.”
