Seekonk Sustainability Impact for 2025

Through the efforts of the DPW and Seekonk Recycling Committee, residents were able to take advantage of many programs for waste reduction and special recycling.

Throughout the year we organized many events and programs, including:
• Monetary Donations via Terracycle to Doorways Food Pantry, Seekonk Land Trust, and the PTO’s at Martin & Hurley
• Earth Day Celebration, featuring our annual Litter Patrol town cleanup, free backyard compost machines, and discounted rain barrels
• Launched the Second Saturdays Special Recycling Shed, which accepts batteries, bulbs, mercury and more
• Shredding day, Reusable Gift Wrapping, DIY Laundry Detergent, Plastic Free July, Electronics Deconstruction, Sustainable Holidays and Sustainable Beauty sessions at the Seekonk Public Library
• Distributed 100 free kitchen scrap buckets for compost collection, and 100 stainless steel water bottles to reduce single use bottles
• 2nd annual Pumpkin Smash at TARF
• Candy wrapper special recycling collection at the Aitken/Martin Trunk or Treat
• Pumpkin Somethin at Aitken
• Affixed over 5000 reminder stickers on residential recycling bins throughout town to help awareness of what belongs in the bin

In the year 2025, residents recycled:
• 7,830 lbs of mattresses and boxsprings
• 3,364,000 lbs of curbside single stream recycling
• 550 light bulbs
• 3,000 lbs of batteries
• 6,000 lbs of electronics
• 62,000 lbs of food waste via Black Earth Compost
• 210 lbs of toothbrushes, air fresheners, pet food and more via Terracycle
• 1,300 lbs of textiles via Bay State Textiles
• 30 ink cartridges
• 1,200 lbs of string lights
• 100 lbs of pens, pencils and markers via Terracycle
• 200 lbs of beauty and personal care packaging via Terracycle
• 6,000 candy wrappers via Terracycle
• 4,500 straws via Terracycle
